APRIL   -   TEACHER FEATURE

Jessica Marrotte- MS Science
PictureMrs. Marrotte with her family
What grade/s and subject/s do you teach?
Currently, I teach 7th Grade Integrated Science.

How long have you taught at Glen Rock HS?
I've been teaching her for five years!

What is something you love about teaching?
There is never a dull moment!  Students bring such a wealth of knowledge and personal experiences to the classroom that they share every day. It's great to see students make connections between what they are learning and actual life experiences. Teaching is fulfilling for me because if I am able to get at least ONE student interested in science or brighten their day, I know I've made a positive impact in someone's life.

Tell us something interesting we might not know about you.
Prior to teaching, I worked in pharmaceutical advertising for almost six years. While I enjoyed aspects of my previous career, I really wanted to help people directly in some capacity. I've always been interested in Earth and Environmental Science, so I decided to go back to school to pursue teaching. Five years later, I still get excited about the material and says to deliver it to the students. When I am not teaching, I can be found at home or the local playground chasing my two kids, volunteering within my community and trying to convince Mr. Valentino not to purchase any products containing palm oil because of the unsustainable harvesting methods associated with it.

a cameo role in Mamma Mia!

What grade/s and subject/s do you teach?
I teach HS Music, which involves roles as Concert Choir Director for grades 9-12, Music Production (GRHS Musical) and Concert Band.

How long have you taught at Glen Rock HS?
I've been teaching here since 2005. This Fall (2019) will be my 14th year at GRHS, but 25th year teaching!

What is something you love about teaching?
I love working with young people and helping them find a path to succeed. There's nothing better than seeing a student's eyes light up when he/she suddenly understands or can do something new – no longer needing my help.

Tell us something interesting we might not know about you.
Let's see...music does take up a lot of my time, but I do enjoy other things, such as baseball, biking, skateboarding rollerblading, drawing, reading and going to the movies. Believe it or not, I always have my skateboard in the trunk of my car - just in case I see a new asphalt! 😉
